Surfing the web today, I came across a list of Rolling Stones 100 greatest songs of all time, and it got me thinking, what would I consider the "greatest songs of all time"? It's really a tough choice judging from all of the music I consider great. I'm kind of an eclectic listener. So, I pose the same question to anyone reading this: Which would you consider the greatest songs of all time? You know, the kind of song that you could listen to year after year and it never gets old and always makes you stop and think "Man, this is a great song"? I'm curious what all of your favorites are so let me know. Some of the ones I love are listed on RS' 100 greatest and some aren't but I thought it might be kind of fun to hear what songs you all would put on that list. Here are some I came up with in no particular order:
- Fire and Rain by James Taylor
- Something in the Way She Moves by James Taylor
- You Can Close Your Eyes by James Taylor
- Carolina On My Mind by James Taylor...virtually any song by James Taylor
- Blackbird by Sarah McLachlan
- Singin' in the Rain by Gene Kelly
- Chasing Cars by Snow Patrol
- Collide by Howie Day
- One Fine Day by Natalie Merchant
- Mack The Knife by Michael Buble (and a variety of other artists)
- Home by Michael Buble
- A Long December by Counting Crows
- Let It Be by The Beatles
- Motorcycle Driveby by Third Eye Blind
- Rainy Days and Mondays by The Carpenters- don't we all secretly just love The Carpenters?
I know some of those still have yet to really stand the test of time, but hopefully that gets you all thinking.

As for that question, that is so hard, I love music like most people and I am always walking around singing (but I am a bad singer). James calls me a humming bird because of my habit. By the way, love the new page. I had fun today, thanks.
I can think of a few U2 songs, a few Counting Crow songs, and maybe a few others, but if I look at my most listened too song on my itunes it is from The Power of One called Mother Africa (reprise). It is the stuff that great songs are made of. :)
Good list! I'm not sure what I would add on to the list. I think mine would include the Four Seasons by Vivaldi. I've decided that I really enjoy listening to classical music. :)
I've gotta go with U2. They've stayed popular over several decades and I can listen to their songs over and over without getting tired of them. Their Joshua Tree album is a classic.
I think I'm going to have to go look at RS' list and see what they have to say.
Yes, I love James Taylor. I love "
we've Only Just Begun' by the Carpenters, "Never My Love" by the Letterman, "Because I Knew You" from Wicked, "Cause I'm Dreamin" or whatever it's called by Selena, "How to Handle a Woman" from Camelot. Those are all in the category of my love songs but I could go on and on with all kinds of songs I love. "Phantom" has to be at the top of the list as well as lots of other songs from various musicals.
